It wasn’t all that bad I guess. There was an old fashion cowboy bathtub sitting in the middle of the living room in front of the fireplace. There was a couch, love seat and two chairs that sectioned off the area. To the right of the door was a kitchen area with a stove and refrigerator. Juan Carlos informed me that there’s no electricity. We will use lanterns and candles to light the house. I think it’s rather romantic; him and I in a house lit by candlelight. It’s straight out of an old Hollywood movie. Is my man a hopeless romantic?
There was a full size bed across the kitchen. It was behind the couch, and placed up against the wall. It had a rot iron headboard and footboard with a homemade quilt on top of it. For Juan Carlos to be rich, his ranch house was rather humbly furnished. It was kind of aboriginal if you know what I mean. Especially when he told me about the bathroom.
“Why is the bed out here? What’s in that back room; the only thing with a door?” I asked.
“It’s the bathroom,” Juan Carlos replied.
“So there’s indoor plumbing, right?” Juan Carlos laughed.
“No, baby,” he replied. “The room isn’t that big. There’s a bucket with some tissue in there.” I looked at him sideways.
“A bucket?”
“Yes. I had them bring the tub up here for you.”
“For me? Well, how do you normally clean yourself?” I asked inquisitively. I’m not about to be laid up and fucking a funky motherfucker!
“There’s an outdoor shower in the back of the house. I figured you wouldn’t want to bathe outside, so I had my men fly a tub up here.” I looked at him strangely.
“What do you mean had your men fly a tub up here?” Juan Carlos smiled.
“I have a plane and they used it to bring up the tanks of water and other supplies, along with the tub,” Juan Carlos explained.
“So why did we ride horses and camp out? We could have hopped in the plane and been here in no time.”
“I wanted to spend some alone time with you, and I figured this would be a good beginning to our romantic weekend.” My face softened because he mentioned romance. “I want to show you what I consider romantic. Anyone can spend thousands of dollars on a romantic weekend in a suite, but I am a true romantic. And I wanted to show you how deeply I love the woman I’m with. I’m a very simple man, Caroline. Perceptions are often incorrect once you get to know a person.”
The man who met us at the gate came into the house. He walked up to the couch and stopped while we stood in the kitchen area. He took his hat off, holding it in his hand.
“Lo ponemos… (We put him).” Juan Carlos shook his head as he glared at the man. The man followed Juan Carlos’s eyes to me then he nodded his head.
“Vaya esperar a que me fuera de nuevo (Go wait for me out back),” said Juan Carlos.
